PAEDIATRICS
We offer a broad range of services for pregnant mothers to keep you and your baby safe and healthy! We recommend expecting mothers see a physician approximately 4 weeks into their pregnancy and continue with regular visits, appointments, and check ups until 36 weeks. This ensures the health of both mother and child throughout the pregnancy and after birth.
We also perform pre-pregnancy exams to ensure the health of the mother before getting pregnant. It’s vitally important for the mother to be in good health not only for the baby’s benefit but for their own as well. Together, we can help plan the best ways to prepare for pregnancy and to soothe the mother of any concerns she may have.
Post pregnancy exams include both physical and mental support to ensure the overall health of the new mother. Bearing a child can take a toll on the body and mind, our health care professionals are highly trained in post pregnancy support and are here to help new mothers in any way they can.
MEDICAL EXAMS
We perform medical exams for any number of reasons. A medical exam will include a medical history, a physical exam, a chest x-ray and blood tests. The physical exam will include several exams; eyes, ears, throat and nose, extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin, and external genitalia.
TRAVEL CLINIC
Are you going travelling soon? Riverbend Medical Clinic ensures patients are up-to-date on each and every travel immunization recommended by healthcare professionals. When you come in for a consultation, we will determine what vaccines are required or recommended before travelling to a specific country. During your travel clinic consultation, patients will receive a breakdown of the dos and don’ts of travelling, such as not donating blood 12 months after returning from specific countries. Some countries require proof of vaccinations to enter – before you go travelling make sure you know all the requirements! We take walk-ins and same day appointments so last minute consultations are available for you.
DIABETIC TREATMENTS
Controlling blood glucose levels is the major goal of diabetes treatments in order to prevent complications of the disease. Type 1 diabetes is treated with insulin therapy as well as new diet and exercise plans. Type 2 diabetes is treated with non-insulin medications and insulin therapy, as well as changes in diet and exercise. At Riverbend Medical Clinic, we create attentive and unique long-term medical plans to manage diabetes. Our expert doctors understand that although diabetes is a common medical condition, there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
DRIVERS MEDICALS
Sometimes drivers are required by law to have a driver medical exam before renewing their license. These exams are usually for seniors, commercial drivers, and those with health conditions. When someone turns 75 in Alberta, it becomes necessary to pass a driver’s medical to ensure vision, hearing, and cognitive ability allows safe driving. Another exam is required at 80 years old, then every 2 years after that.
Some commercial drivers are required to have periodic driver’s medical exams. Though these exams require a fee, most employes cover these costs for their employees depending on their contracts. For individuals with health conditions, it’s required by law to report any changes in health that could affect their ability to drive safely. A healthcare professional will notify someone with health conditions whether they’re required to have a driver’s medical exam.
To prepare for your driver’s medical exam, bring a list of all medications and previous medical history for the healthcare professional, including glasses or contact prescriptions.

CANCER SCREENING
We perform cancer screening to detect potential risks before any symptoms appear. This can take the form of a few methods such as blood tests, urine tests, and medical imaging to name just a few. Cancer screening can lead to an earlier diagnosis and prevention. If a patient is within a certain age or population group, more specific cancer screenings may be performed, for example breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer. We would be happy to provide a consultation and a screening for anyone of all ages. Stay in control of your health and your body.

OUT OF PROVINCE / FOREIGN MEDICALS
At Riverbend Medical Clinic, we treat patients who are out of province and/or have foreign medical coverage. We understand that sometimes accidents happen and not ever traveller has the coverage to get the care they need. We make it easier for people foreign to Alberta or Canada to get the healthcare they seek, and to make additional charges accordingly. For Canadians, those who are out of province but have an emergency medical situation will mostly be covered by their provincial medical insurance. For non-emergency situations, there will be a fee and any extra costs can be billed to the medical insurance provider of your home province.
